A Day In The Life Of A Surrey Wedding Mobile Makeup Artist

March 8, 2011 by

Hi my name is Lucy and I own an established business in Beauty therapy, nails and alternative health which I have been running for 2 years and love my job. I have been in the beauty industry for over ten years and have trained to an advanced therapist level with Decleor in London. I get to see lots of different people of whom I get to know well and have become regular clients. I offer a mobile wedding makeup service as well as working in my salon located in Horley near Gatwick, Surrey. I enjoy visiting brides to help make thei special day run smoothly and their makeup to look perfect.

I offer makeup trials for clients so they have a full 2 hours of exclusive time to discuss ideas and have their makeup done when they are 100% happy with their look I make notes and take photos to show them. The bride has the opportunity to appear in the online portfolio too to show their friends and family their wonderful wedding day makeup before the big day. I am all too aware of how expensive a wedding can be so try to make wedding packages and prices affordable for all kinds of budgets.

My Day working as a mobile makeup artist in Surrey

I get up early and travel to the bride’s home or venue to do the makeup for the bride and bridal party. This is lovely because I can share their excitement on the big day by helping to prepare them and look great. On a typical day I will makeup several members of the bridal party. I arrive to set up my makeup and am quickly ready to start the first bridesmaid. I am careful to cover any imperfections or spots and apply the foundation using a cosmetic sponge. I use a water resistant and perspiration proof product which creates an absolutely flawless finish without looking thick, heavy, caked or creased. After the base I set the foundation with a light setting powder which keeps the face looking velvety smooth and helps it stay put for the rest of the wedding day and evening.

Next I do the eye makeup blusher and lip stick.

I have a wide range of pure colour mineral powders which I can mix to create any tone and shade of one particular colour. The makeup can blend in or match a colour theme of the wedding which can look striking and compliments the whole bridal party. The eye makeup is blended and mixed on an artist’s pallet for each individual client so their makeup is unique.

The blusher is one of the best effects for changing the shape of the face or adding a glow or cheekbones or a bronzed sun kissed look.

Lastly the lipstick adds that finishing touch the clients have a choice of shimmer, gloss or matte effect lipstick and can take a sample with them for the evening after they have eaten if they need to apply a touch up.

When all the makeup’s have been done I am at hand to help the bride get dressed it is especially useful for the mother of the bride to have a helping hand if the bride has a lace up dress needing two people at times to lace up the bodice!!

It is so lovely to see everyone ready in their dresses with their makeup done which completes the look!!

The Ultimate Stag Party Ideas

If you have the job of organising a stag party then you may be trying to think of things that you can do at this party. There are some great things that you can do in order to ensure that you don’t end up doing the same old thing as everyone else. It is important to try and make the stag party a night that everyone will remember for all the right reasons. If you are looking for some great ideas for a stag party then read on.

- You may have heard of some people heading off for a weekend in a foreign city for their stag party and to be honest this is one idea that is really fantastic. Could there honestly be a better way to celebrate your stag party than combining it with a weekend away? There are some really amazing cities that you can visit these days such as Berlin, Edinburgy, Amsterdam, Dublin or Prague. If you want a great way to get prepared for married life, then a holiday with the lads is just the ticket.

- An adventure weekend is another great way to have a stag party. Would it not be much better to cycle around Europe or scale a mountain instead of sitting in a pub for the whole weekend? If you like living life on the edge then you will find some great ideas for a stag party.

- A great way to get ready for a stag party is to go paintballing. This is something that you could arrange for early in the day so everyone is in a great mood before they hit the bars.

- Another great night would be a pub crawl through all the bars that the groom used to frequent over the years. This kind of night will probably end up with everyone being very drunk so you need to make sure that it is suitable for all those on the stag party.

The ideas above are just examples of how you can do something different for your stag party. You should be able to think of many more great ideas if you let your imagination get to work.

You only get married once, so have a stag weekend Budapest that you will remember forever.

Budgeting for Your Surrey Wedding

March 2, 2011 by

You don’t have to marry a Prince just to have that wedding you’re dreaming of; although actually marrying a Prince is always part of every woman’s wedding dream. The key is to (1) find the wedding suppliers who could offer the services you are looking for and (2) learn to apportion your money properly, or in other words, learn to budget.

The first one is easy. All you have to do is scout, scout, scout: on the internet Surrey Weddings Directory, craft shops and local markets. The challenge lies on the second. Wedding budgeting is tricky. Wedding budgeting is not all about finding the cheapest suppliers. It starts with dividing your money into percentages and putting them in their right places.

The Great Three

1. Food and Venue
2. Dress
3. Photography

FOOD

A large percentage of the wedding budget goes in The Great Three. Food must be scrumptious for your guests to enjoy and the venue or the reception area must look good when photographed. Indoor weddings must have at least a spot where guests and the couples could be photographed. Don’t waste your wedding budget with wedding reception venues that only offer dining area; choose those that offer their lobby or some parts of the establishment that have an elegant and stylish backdrop.

WEDDING DRESS

You don’t want to look like a window draped with curtains on your wedding day, nor for your bridesmaids to be called walking throw pillows. Apportion 25% of your wedding budget to your wedding dress.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Yes. It’s not wedding invitation, it’s not entertainment, it’s not souvenirs. 25% of your wedding budget must go towards your wedding photography.

After the sumptuous meals has been munched down, after the drinks have been gulped down, and after the dress has been worn and laundered, the only thing that will make you and your guests happy after all the partying has died down are the photos. For years to come, your wedding photos will be looked upon, with brimming happiness, again and again, and also by your children and grandchildren.

PERCENTAGES

Thirty percent (30%) of the wedding budget goes to food and venue, twenty-five percent (25%) of the wedding budget goes to the photographer and twenty-five percent (25%) of the wedding budget goes to the dress.

Stick to this wedding budgeting tactic. No ifs no buts. Don’t overspend on favours or invitations. You can even create one of your own to lessen the cost. There are a lot of favour shops around that can give you an inspiration for your own wedding giveaways. Buy one and buy the raw materials for its production from your local supermarkets or office supplies stores. This will help you maximise your wedding budget.

Don’t be afraid to negotiate with your wedding suppliers. As they say, if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

Others List (or the remaining twenty percent (20%) of the wedding budgeting list)

-Legal Papers
-Invitation
-Favours
-Entertainment
-Transportation
-Flowers

Some Valuable Tips For Women About To Marry

February 23, 2011 by

Have you noticed the number of brides who are preparing to get ready for that special day? Each culture has its different practices of beautifying up their bride in order to make her look her best.

The most common of the lot are facial regimes and makeovers, not to mention the controlled diet which needs to be followed. This is done to ensure that the bride fits comfortably in to that slim looking dress. This could set up some stress and hence cause the onset of rashes and pimples and hence family members are called in to help control the situation before it gets out of hand.

Invariably the situation boils downs to too many cooks spoil the broth and you can find many family members clashing and fighting. It is always advisable to go in for the services of a professional wedding planner who will keep the fights away and do your job systematically.

An important aspect of marriage is that you will be stepping in to some new shoes and taking up new responsibilities. Thus you must make sure that you enhance that inner beauty inside you. Facial creams hairdo and dresses have already accounted for your outer beauty.

Never be tempted in to going for something that is not for you. Bridal magazines can make you look at a totally unrealistic wedding.

You may do way better to go in for that garden wedding when compared to one on a yacht as the increase in costs may cause you and your husband to have arguments. Counseling at such an early stage is always bad.

Brush up on that smile. You will be seen by a lot of people and a lot of photos will be taken. You do not want to look like the odd one especially at your wedding do you?

The characteristic of a good bride is that she keep as calm as possible even if something goes drastically wrong at the wedding. Your practice will pay off while handling unwanted people.

Wedding Favours For Your Guests

February 4, 2011 by

There are many presents that can be used as wedding favours, after all the point of wedding favours is to show your guests that you are grateful for them coming to your wedding and showing their support for your wedding. Therefore, you should really try to find wedding favors, that your guests will be keen on.

Naturally, the gift that most appeals to your guests, may not be one you would choose for yourself, but you are buying the wedding favours for your guests, not yourself. If you think about it, you should be able to come up with something that everyone will like and that you are pleased to give. In order to help you get the task done, we will offer you a few tips below.

Love spoons are a popular souvenir at Welsh and other Celtic weddings. A love spoon was a wooden spoon carved by a love sick man for the woman he loved. She would then either take or refuse the love spoon, although she was not obliged by the acceptance of the spoon. Miniature versions are often used as wedding favours. They can be inscribed with dates and names and symbols of love such as a hearts, bells, vines, key holes, anchors and knots.

Wedding favours can also be suitable to eat. There are a pile of choices available for couples who wish to give their guests some kind of edible favour. You can have many items personalized these days. Some firms specialize in personalized presents, which can also be given as wedding favours. Some examples of edible, personalized wedding favours might be: chocolate bars, mints, biscuits or gourmet chocolates. The box or wrapper could bear your photo or / and your names and the date.

Miniature wedding cakes are another idea for edible wedding favours. Miniature wedding cakes have a short shelf life so they will have to include a warning, which will in all probability be put on the wrapper automatically, but it is worth checking.

A half / quarter or small bottle of wine or other drink would also be fairly easy to arrange as wine bottle labels can be bought in any home brew shop.

Picture frames are frequent wedding favors. You could give a picture frame and follow it up with a photo of the beneficiary of the frame enjoying your wedding party. This might be expensive and tricky to set up as you will have to keep records of who has been photographed and who has not. It would be terrible to miss someone out, would it not? You will probably also need a professional photographer or at least a dedicated amateur.

Wedding favours can be anything really, but I reckon that they are better if they are practical. We gave very unusual bottle-openers away at our wedding. They had a pattern of a couple getting married, our names and the date. They also had a magnet in them to catch the bottle top as it came off. I have seen dozens of our bottle-openers stuck on our guests’ fridges over the years and the wedding was three years ago.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with Welsh love spoons, or Wales in general, go to our website at Welsh Products Online

Questions For Your Wedding Cake Designer

January 20, 2011 by

Before you take a trip to visit the person who’ll be baking and designing your wedding cake, you need to know what to talk about. Make sure you have all the information you need to avoid disasters and to end up with the right cake for your big day. We’ve all heard wedding cake horror stories, and no one wants to be one of them!

Here’s a look at some of the questions you’ll want to ask your cake designer.

- How much experience do you have designing wedding cakes? Do you have a portfolio of work we can look at, or satisfied clients we can speak to? (And then be sure to follow up and call the previous clients.)

- Will you be having an open tasting soon? This is an important question that allows you to try out the different kinds of cake and fillings that your cake designer has to offer.

- Can you design a custom wedding cake? Or will we have to work from set designs instead? Is there an extra charge for custom work, and how adaptable are existing designs?

- Will toppers, tiers, stands, cutters, fountains and similar accessories be available with the cake, or will we need to supply them ourselves? Will there be an extra charge for these items? Do you have a portfolio of what these look like?

- When fresh flowers are used on a cake, will the designer coordinate with the florist, or will you need to bring the flowers to the designer? How far in advance will your need to deliver the flowers for the cake?

- What ingredients are usually used in the cake, and what icings are generally used? The better the ingredients, the more expensive, yet better tasting the cake will be.

- How long does it take you to make a wedding cake? How long and in what way will the cake be stored before the wedding? Better cakes are prepared closer to the wedding, but it takes several days to assemble most of them. Don’t believe anyone who says they make the whole cake from scratch the day of the wedding. Three to five days is more common.

- How are your cakes priced? Will fillings and detailing cost extra? May I have a price list and/or written proposal to take home?

- Do you deliver and how much is delivery? Can the delivery person make emergency repairs and arrange the cake table? Delivery is always best as the cake maker will have a secure way to transport it and the cake shouldn’t get ruined in transit. Asking these questions will help you make certain that you get a wedding cake that’s right for your occasion, that you don’t pay too much, and you won’t have any nasty surprises. Be prepared when you talk to your cake designer – it’s worth it.

How To Save On Flowers On Your Wedding Day

January 20, 2011 by

While flowers play a crucial role in wedding celebrations, it doesn’t always mean that you have to spend much on these decors just so that your big day can be considered a perfect event. Flowers symbolize beauty, and your own wedding can be as beautiful as you want to be even with a tight floral budget. You’ll only need a little bit of creativity if you want to minimize on floral expense without compromising your wedding style.

If you want to cut on flower cost, consider using alternatives. Your bridal bouquet for one can be as elegant as you want it to be even at a lower cost. By using your creativity, you can come up with substitutes for you and the whole entourage’s bouquet. Simply accessorize the bouquet with non-floral elements such as feathers, beads, and even pins. You may also opt for less expensive single-stem flowers like rose and orchids. They may be not as expensive but they surely can compete with style.

For centerpieces, they do not necessarily have to be complete flower arrangements all the time. Ornamental plants like cactus, moss, cypress, and even twigs can make good substitutes to make a centerpiece look fuller. You can even use your wedding souvenirs or food arrangements such as wine or breadbaskets as centerpiece.

If you are planning to hold your wedding on a beach or a garden, you can take advantage of the natural style of the location in order to cut on flower expenditure. Since most beaches and gardens do not require further designing, you can definitely save a lot. In addition, consider holding the reception just beside the location of the ceremony so that you’ll only have to design one setting instead of two.

When buying flowers, consider buying in wholesale. That way, you won’t have to waste your time and energy jumping from one supplier to another just to get the things that you need. You can also ask for a bigger discount if you are going to buy in wholesale. In the same manner, don’t buy flowers when it is the peak season and the flowers are in huge demand and sold at a higher price.

Finally, learn to prioritize on what is supposed to be the highlight among your wedding decors. Usually, it is the bridal bouquet, the backdrop, and the centerpiece that should be highlighted on your wedding photos. Focus on these factors when allocating your budget so that you will not be spending extra on unnecessary elements.
